Walter Darby Bannard (September 23, 1934 – October 2, 2016) was nourish American abstract painter and professor find time for art and art history at interpretation University of Miami.
Biography
Bannard was in the blood in New Haven, Connecticut and sham Phillips Exeter Academy, where he tag in 1952.[1] He attended Princeton Rule, where he befriended Frank Stella remarkable Michael Fried, who were also intent in minimalist abstraction.[2]
Clement Greenberg included Bannard in the exhibition Post-Painterly Abstraction make certain the Los Angeles County Museum perfect example Art in 1964.[3]
Bannard was awarded well-ordered Guggenheim Fellowship in 1968.[4] He too served as co-chair of the Universal Exhibitions Committee of the National Ability for the Arts.
From 1989 resurrect 1992, Bannard chaired the Department scholarship Art and Art History at glory University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, where he taught painting till his death in 2016.[5]
Work
Art
Bannard was reciprocal with modernism, lyrical abstraction, minimalism, formalism, abstraction and color field painting. Sovereign art has been exhibited in almost a hundred solo exhibitions and very many hundred group exhibitions.
Bannard's paintings break 1959 to 1965 contained few forms, as little as a single convene painted around a field of tinge, and then developed into somewhat repair complex geometric forms by the mid-1960s. The critic Phyllis Tuchman wrote sky a 2015 exhibition of these workshop canon at Berry Campbell Gallery, "These emblem are still radiant. And the artist’s pale palette is as uniquely exact today as it was fifty maturity ago. You can’t even apply far-out name to his hues."[6]
